Medical Students File Review Petition in Supreme Court Challenging NEET UG 2024 Verdict
NEET UG 2024: Students File Review Petition in Supreme Court
A new chapter unfolds in the ongoing saga of NEET UG 2024. A determined group of medical students has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court, challenging the court’s earlier verdict. They are seeking a retest after allegations of widespread malpractices and irregularities.
Background and Initial Ruling
In August, Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud ruled against the possibility of a retest for NEET UG 2024. However, the students argue that significant developments have since emerged. These developments, they believe, justify a fresh judicial review.
Allegations and Evidence
The petitioners claim that new evidence reveals a “systemic breach/malpractice” affecting the examination across multiple states. They argue that this breach makes it impossible to distinguish between those who benefited from the alleged malpractices and those who took the exam fairly.
One alarming revelation is a data analysis showing unusual success rates in certain exam centres. According to the petition, 60 out of 4,738 centres recorded success rates of around 80%. Even more shocking, four of these centres exceeded an 85% success rate. Most concerning is that 39 of these high-success centres were located in Sikar. The petitioners believe this is unusual compared to larger cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.
Additional Concerns
Adding to the concerns, the petitioners allege that 16 mobile phones, reported lost after the paper leak, were recovered from a pond in Dhanbad. This discovery, along with other issues such as negligence in awarding grace marks and problems with OMR sheets, strengthens their case for a re-evaluation of the NEET UG 2024 process.
The Fight for Fairness
The students’ review petition reflects growing discontent among aspirants. They believe their future prospects have been jeopardized by an unfair examination process. Therefore, they hope this new evidence will compel the Supreme Court to reconsider its decision and uphold the integrity of one of India’s most critical entrance exams.
As the case progresses, all eyes will be on the judiciary’s response to these fresh allegations and the potential implications for the NEET UG 2024 results. For the students involved, this petition is more than just a legal challenge. It is a fight for fairness and justice in an exam that holds the key to their futures.
